Ammolite is a fossil . It comes from the shell of a large snail like creature that lived 65 million years ago It is only found in one deposit in Alberta Canada and has been recognized as a rare gemstone since 1990. The deposit is expected to be depleted in about 10 more years
The ammolite has color play like opals with color changing based on the light and the individual piece. This one shows almost all red when viewed in one direction and mostly green in another but with some red and orange- yellow.
